Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Like fellow former Mickey Mouse clubber Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera kicks off her debut album with a teen-lust nugget--in this case, the No. 1 single "Genie in a Bottle"--that the rest of the disc can't possibly live up to. Aguilera has a strong voice, but patterns herself after iffy role models such as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Aside from "Genie," most of this music is straight from the cookie cutter, like the less than successfully sultry "When You Put Your Hands on Me" and the Mulan ballad showpiece "Reflection." In chart terms, though, there'll be no stopping her--at least for a while. --Rickey Wright

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad!!!   April 3, 2009

I've never sat down to listen to Christina's music, until tonight. I figured 'What the heck' and gave it a try. It actually wasn't too bad. She has a beautiful voice. So far, my two favorite songs are Genie in a Bottle, and What a Girl Wants. I'd probably recommend CHRISTINA AGUILERA!!!

3 out of 5 stars Teen "Shock Rock"   March 10, 2009
Joseph Adams (Superior, WI USA)
When I first heard about Christina, it wac how hot she was. Now they're trying to classify this teen pop as shock rock. While it doesn't come close ro Mansor or Alice Cooper, nor even King Diamomnd, ten years after its release it's hard to believe a full decade has gone by already, but it still doesn't sound dated. I think it's o.k. if used to push it on her sex appeal, but shock rock?

4 out of 5 stars Christina Aguilera   December 28, 2008

I recently saw one of those biography shows about CA and it made me really curious about her debut. At the time, I wasn't interested in the teen popsters that dominated the airwaves and so never paid her any attention till I purchased her second album, STRIPPED.

After listening to it for a while, I can see why she won her grammy. This is an excellent debut which shows her vocal ability in singing pop/dance, ballads and r&b tinged singles. I truly enjoy listening to the first 7 tracks which is a great opening in my book! The other two tracks that stand out to me are BLESSED & OBVIOUS.

This is an excellent debut that did what debuts are supposed to do - produced great singles and introduced the world to a new voice in the music field.
