The Battery Tender Plus 12-volt/1.25-amp Battery Charger is much more than a trickle charger. Powered by BTP microprocessor technology, it has a "brain". Utilizing a 4-step charging program (initialization, bulk charge, absorption mode and float mode), it allows you to simply connect the charger to a battery, either in or out of a vehicle, and forget about it until you are ready to put the battery to work. Like all Battery Tender chargers, at the end of the regular charger cycle the it automatically switches its output voltage to a safe, storage or float level that eliminates the need to worry about the damaging effects of overcharging, and the resulting need to check on the condition of the battery. If or when the battery voltage drops too far under load, output power resumes and the charging cycle begins again. The unit also features sparkproof connectors, short circuit and reverse polarity protection, an easy to understand charging status LED indicator, a quick connect harness for use in hard to reach areas and almost no current draw from batteries connected to. This product works EXACTLY as advertised. Easy to install and "idiot prof." If you leave you vehicle parked for extended periods of time, you need a Battery Tender. (No I don't work for the company.)

I was using a black & decker "smart charger" before this and it sucked. would always give me errors no matter the battery I tried
got the battery tender and it works fine. used it a few times on various batteries and has always worked.
side note for optima people: your really only supposed to charge at 1AMP. but the battery tender is only 1/4 amp over that. alot of people are using typical 2AMP chargers and getting away with it. just saying per optimas website its supposed to be 1AMP max.

I recently bought my first motorcycle. I didn't know how bad cold weather effects a battery, until it dropped in the 40's and my bike's battery seeemed to always be low on juice. I read all the reviews of other brands, this one had all the best reviews. I bought the Plus instead of the Junior because it charges quicker. It's simple to use and understand. It's recommended to charge your battery once a month, but I do it every two weeks and my battery runs fine and I don't have to worry about it anymore. Only problem I see is that there is no instructions on how to hook up the quick charge cables; I don't know if I can use them on my bike, if I could it would make it even more convenient.

I've had my Battery Tender Plus for 10 years, it has bounced off the concrete garage floor a number of times and still works fine. It has really extended the life of my motorcycle batteries. I leave it plugged in all of the time, it will not overcharge or boil a battery. Excellent product.
