One of my favorite bands of all time May 28, 2009 Ronald S. Mcguire (Warren, MI) Saw them at Andiamo's a few weeks ago in Warren, MI. They sound just as good now as ever. If you ever get a chance to see them live do yourself a favor and do so.
Just like the title May 1, 2009 Paul Kelley It is the best one yet. I had it on vinyl, and now on CD.
EDIT: Missing acoustic intro to American Woman! April 18, 2009 Dr. Jekyll (Audubon, Pa. USA) 2006 The Best of the Guess Who [EXTRA TRACKS] This version is missing the acoustic intro to American Woman! If you're like me that will really bother you every time the track starts. Better to get the older best of the guess who, I didn't find the extra tracks on this all that essential enough to edit a classic song.
"Best of the Guess Who" gets its due January 27, 2009 allemande (Columbia, MO USA) There have been a number of one-, two-, and three-disc CD compilations of hits by the Guess Who. This collection, dating back to the days of vinyl LPs, has long been a favorite. Its earlier CD release, from a couple of decades ago, suffered from a number of problems. The sound was thin, and died away prematurely on the tracks that ended with fade-outs (probably trying to hide hiss in a worn master tape). The cover art was marred by a black box in the upper right corner, obscuring a logo added to an LP reissue. I guess no one bothered to look for the original photo. Well, all has been made right for this release. All the tracks sound good, and finish properly. In recent years many CD reissues (including some Guess Who CDs) have had their dynamic range compressed in the mastering process, and have sounded loud and boomy. That is not the case here: treble and bass levels are normal, and the recordings "breathe". And they even got the cover right this time--no black box. There are three bonus tracks on this release. That may not seem generous, considering how much music a CD will hold, but good choices were made. "Broken", in particular, has not always been present on Guess Who collections, and is welcome. Considering the price of this release (I paid about $7 at the local mega-store) and its surprisingly good sound, three bonus tracks are sufficient. If I were in charge, this CD would include the entire contents of "The Best of the Guess Who, Volume 2" as well, but never mind. This one is just fine, and I am enjoying it.
A long Drive October 14, 2008 T. Sauer I actually bought this for my wife. She drives an hour to work and an hour coming home. But I did ask her about the CD and she stated, "It's good for a long drive! So I guess that means to me she likes it!
