A good sequel November 27, 2009 Scott Peterson (Center of the U.S.) For me this game was about on par with the original, adding in a few good things while having a couple of detractions. The graphics are somewhat better, and the gameplay is almost exactly the same. You have the option of playing a male or female version of the character, and you have more customization in the armor and weapons you can use, although most don't seem to make an awful lot of difference. The game can pretty much be played through with a SCAR-H and a scope with a .223 backup and a reflex sight.
The story could have been filled out better, I got somewhat confused as to the who/what on the first go round (You play most of the game with the same two team mates from the first) and a few cut scenes could have explained things more.
The graphics have more visible detail, but don't have the glamorous focus the first one did. Instead you fight in more complex maps such as a junkyard or an industrial facility, where the enemy have several ways of coming at you.
My biggest critique of the game is the sound. There were a few times, usually on reloads of scenes, where the enemy's weapons would be silent for a few minutes, and there was a very poor directional quality to the shooting, several times I thought an enemy was in front of me while he was shooting from behind. There were some sound effect tricks, however, as in a few sequences you had to fight through maps with REALLY loud noise (such as a music system left on) and I found trying to keep my bearings while fighting was a challenge.
The game felt shorter than the first, but in the end was a little more challenging, so it's worth the effort if you liked the first one.
Good Game November 21, 2009 John H. Jett This is a great game and even better than the first one. However, I installed this game on my laptop, and the game is not supported on my laptop. So, sometimes the sound works on it, and sometimes it doesn't. If you get the PC version of this game, install it on a desktop computer. Also, another common problem with the PC version of this game is the fact that an Xbox 360 controller will not work even when you go into options and turn on the option. You can look up the solution on the Ubisoft forums, but the chances are that it will not work. Over all, the game itself is lots of fun.
A refined and enhanced version of Vegas 1 October 30, 2009 David R. Krueger (Huntsville, AL United States) If you've played Rainbow Sex Vegas, then you will almost certainly like Vegas 2. It's very similar, but improved in the following ways:
1. Much improved graphics. Vegas 1 had kind of a fuzziness that a number of games used for to add a sense of atmosphere. If you go back and play Vegas 1 after playing Vegas 2, it's very obvious. Vegas 2 has better detail and clarity and refinements that make it more realistic and smooth.
2. Your character profile is customizable. You can pick clothing, armor, weapons, head gear, etc. If you have a webcam, you can actually use your own face by going through a series of steps where it takes a frontal and profile view of your head and blends it into the character. I was skeptical, but it really worked surprisingly well.
3. Weapons and outfitting are earned in Vegas 2. Unlike Vegas 1, where all the weapons are available from the beginning of the game, Vegas 2 starts with a limited selection and unlocks additional weapons and equipment as you progress through the game.
4. The game awards you with points for your actions in the game. Score a head shot and it pops up with an congratulatory award that motivates you to be accurate in your shooting. Points are awarded for killing an enemy on a rope, hiding behind cover, from behind, etc, etc. There are three cumulative scores (marksmanship, close order combat, and assault), each of which has multiple progressive thresholds that increase your status. In addition, your rank is increased as you progress through the game. While this isn't a crucial element of the game, I found that it enhanced the enjoyment of the game immeasurably.
4. AI is better in Vegas 2. I don't really have any complaints about the AI in either game, but I think Vegas 2 has fewer "anomalies" where one of the AI guys gets stuck or walks right up to you and stands there.
5. Game play is very much like Vegas 1, except a bit more refined, but there is still a lot of hokey dialog between the enemies and you can still hear them talking among themselves as if they were right next to you even when they are two rooms away. You still have to issue a command to get one of your teammates to "heal" your other teammate even when they are right next to each other and no one is shooting at you. I don't really think that's much of a problem. It's just funny that he'd let his buddy bleed to death if you didn't tell him to do something.
6. I played Vegas 1 and 2 through in the story mode and then played the Terrorist Hunt levels. I didn't play any on-line features. In Terrorist Hunt the object is to kill some number of enemies (25-40) before they kill you. In Vegas 2, the Terrorist Hunt levels are not the same maps used in the story mode, so it really constitutes something new. In Vegas 1, some of the Terrorist Hunt maps are places you've seen in the game. Also, in Vegas 2 you have the option of playing the Terrorist Hunts as "Lone Wolf" or with your squad, whereas in Vegas 1, Terrorist Hunt mode was strictly played by yourself (which makes it quite a challenge).
7. The story mode in Vegas 1 is about average, but Vegas 2 was noticeably longer. If you include the Terrorist Hunt levels, they might be about the same because you have to play lone wolf in Vegas 1 which makes the Terrorist Hunt levels pretty hard (so you wind up repeating them until you succeed).
Overall, this is a great game and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes squad based shooters, especially if you like Vegas 1. If you get a good price (I paid $9.50 including shipping), all the better.
Great PC game. October 21, 2009 Ronald D. Seal (STL Missouri) I like this game a lot. I wish I had gotten it on Xbox 360 though. Don't get me wrong. I love the game. The PC command controls are difficult in the heat of battle. I have the 1st one on Xbox 360. The controls are just easier. Great on pc. Just not as good.
Good game but why did muli-player change? October 19, 2009 Jason Bebensee My friends and I bet Rainbow six vegas playing in the co-op mode. We decided to order this and found a new terrorist hunt mode. While this is fun I expected the story mode to provide up to 4 players the same way the 1st installment did. However it does not, it only provides the ability to play 2 player story mode. This is extremely disappointing for us. But over all I think it is a pretty good game so far.
