Already Dead July 4, 2009 Robert Gingrich (South Bend, IN) We plugged in our new WD passport, and time machine took over beautifully. However, we have a laptop and as such, it gets moved and bumped quite a lot. We tried to move the HD with the computer or take it out if we were moving it more often. As accidents do happen, the drive slipped out of the USB cable and we got a warning message. After trying to plug it in again and running disk utility, we got nothing. We plugged it into our PC and it says the drive doesn't have any capacity and won't recognize it. We'll call WD and see about a replacement. If data was lost during transfer when it got unplugged, that's understandable. However, frying the entire drive is rather frustrating. Thankfully, we didn't have anything on the drive we don't also have on the computer. We'll get another and maybe it will work better and we'll be more careful. Flukes do happen. It's a lot of storage for a little price, afterall.
Everything was perfect! July 4, 2009 Renato F. Borras Chavez (San Diego, CA USA) The product got to me in perfect conditions and right on time for my trip to Alaska, I'm glad that I did the deal with you guys! it was excelent. Cheers
Failed after < 1 yr July 3, 2009 Erik Yewell I was initially so excited about the capacity and size of this device. But it totally failed on me. Now my PC's don't recognize it, and it just makes a faint clicking sound. It's a paperweight now.
Excellent drive July 2, 2009 Diego Salerno (Montevideo, Uruguay) I have installed this drive in my D-Link Router DIR-655 USB share port using a USB hub to have both the WD hard drive and my printer shared across my home network. It works perfectly, it is a lot faster than my old external drive.
amazing July 2, 2009 James (Atlanta) One day my friend got a new hard drive for his MacBook and after installing it we had no way to get the data off his old drive. But after some quick thinking we decided to take my own 320 gb Western Digital Passport apart and stick in his old drive so that we could get the data off it. By taking it apart, we got a look at just how high the build quality is--The outer casing is purposefully built "bent" so that it snugs up against the middle section better. The hard drive is in a metal sled which is suspended in the center of the enclosure by rubber form fitting attachments. The whole thing just feels upliftingly sturdy and elegant and makes me feel very confident about the safety of my files. I give it a five out of five stars because it is clearly a fine piece of equipment.
