A happy 6 yrs old is now learning to play chess with this CD April 8, 2009 J. S. Tan (Stow, OH USA) I first checked out this CD from the public library and my son loves it. He is learning the basics while having fun, while his little sister is learning by his side.
Fun and useful February 26, 2009 Josephine Legrand (Greenwich, ct) Learn to Play Chess with Fritz and Chesster 2: Chess in the Black Castle My 6 years old son enjoyed this game very much, though after 4 weeks the novelty is wearing off. It energized him to play and learn more about chess. One advantage is that the game allows kids to play against the computer at any level - which is really why I bought it in the first place. The navigation between learning 'games' is a little slow, even confusing at times - an adult is definetely needed to help at the begining. But now, even though my son no longer plays, he still dreams about beating King Black....
great intro to chess for kids January 29, 2009 M. McAlister (Lancaster, KY United States) My 7-year old son has loved playing this game as a way to learn chess. I would recommend it to others.
Unable to use January 6, 2009 E. Friel (Boston, MA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased two of your video games through Amazon.com for Christmas presents and recently tried using them. I am very disappointed in their performance! "Learn to Play Chess with Fritz and Chesster #1" stops soon after the King's son is challenged to a duel by Black Knight. The last phrase that can be heard is: "Is something going to happen here before we all fall asleep?" "Learn to Play Chess with Fritz and Chesster #2" doesn't get beyond signing in. It keeps saying, no matter name I write in, "You're not the first to bear this name, please choose another name..." I tried removing the programs and re-installing them again and I even tried using a different laptop. What is the problem and how can it be resolved?
Bad Language and Poor Sportsmanship December 23, 2008 Mom to Two (Belfast, ME United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this game 3 years ago for my son (now 8) and he loved it. I didn't like the language- they say "stupid" quite a bit. And I didn't like the way the characters make fun of you if you don't do well. And I didn't like how there are movie-type scenes that they have to watch to get to the next game. You can't skip over these. But he loved it and it did teach him basic chess skills. However, the game ONLY works if the CD is in the computer. After about a year, the CD got scratched and stopped working. Eventually, I decided to purchase LtPC 2 (see my even lower review for that!) for my son and to purchase this game again for my daughter, age 5. She will only play 2 or 3 of the games because she finds it so upsetting the way the characters make fun of her if she doesn't do well. My daughter is a spunky girl who has no trouble standing up for herself so it must be quite upsetting for her to not want to play the game. I'm fed up with these games. I work hard to teach my children to have good character, good sportsmanship and good communication skills. I don't need that compromised by a poorly executed video game.
