5 out of 5 stars Remembering Robert F. Kennedy 30 Years Later   May 27, 2007
K. Bowles (Massachusetts)
Charlie Rose presents in four-part format both Q&A and general discussion with former associates of RFK and three of RFK's children. The opening segment is a one-on-one Q&A with John Seigenthaler, who provided investigative exposes of Teamster corruption to RFK during his days on the McClellan Committee and then served as administrative aide to RFK as Attorney General. Rose's questions are specific to the RFK experience and to the 1960's. Following is a roundtable discussion with Jack Newfield, William Vanden Heuvel and Michael Knox Beran. Jack Newfield and Bill Vanden Heuvel especially provide insightful commentary. A brief film clip from Newfield's documentary "Robert Kennedy: A Memoir" is included. The third segment is a combination of in person roundtable and remote satellite feed with former senate aides Adam Walinsky and Peter Edelman, and press secretary, Frank Mankiewicz. Charlie Rose poses some excellent questions which produce thoughtful and revealing responses. Lastly, Maxwell Kennedy, Kerry Kennedy Cuomo and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. offer first person recollections of their father or discoveries made of their father as they themselves sought to know him. All in all, this is a worthwhile composite snapshot of Robert F. Kennedy and those ideals he strived to make realities. Reference is made by Adam Walinsky that perhaps long-time RFK friend Dave Hackett might have provided perspective different from those gathered and as an aside, I think his inclusion would have been a welcome bonus.
