Front Buttons Don't Work March 28, 2008 S. Sutton We bought this scanner because of the ADF for imaging all our office documents. However, the front buttons don't seem to work. I believe it's because it's connected to a computer with Vista. Canon doesn't have an updated driver to be compatible with the new OS. So, I guess we will have to wait until we are able to use the front buttons. We tried re-installing the driver, but nothing happens when we press the front buttons. Other than that, the scanner does the job using the software that comes with it.
Hard To Find Scanner January 14, 2008 Gary Parks (Fallbrook, CA United States) I got tired of scanning my wife's multi page documents one sheet at a time, then e-mailing the PDF files to her computer (30 ft. away). Found this Canon flatbed scanner, with 30 Sheet feeder, for her office. It is perfect for our needs. It's FAST! It's easy to use (even SHE has no problems). A 14 ft. USB cable keeps it just far enough away not to crowd her work space. A dedicated electrical outlet is advisable. No paper jams thus far, as noted on some reviews. This scanner was hard to find! Did not show up on direct searches on Amazon. Two months of normal use, nothing fancy yet, but so far it's great.
"The lamp was over" January 13, 2008 Mark Garbowski (Queens, NY) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had this scanner for less than 2 weeks. During the 2 hours it worked and was in use, I loved it. Unfortunately, those 2 hours were an exception. First, the scanner arrived with a dysfunctional power cord. It was one of those cords in that needlessly comes in 2 parts, that has to plug into itself. The problem was, the two parts did not match, even though they came together in a single sealed plastic bag. It took Canon a week to get me a replacement, which was 3 days after it was first promised. I had to call the day after it didn't come, only to be told that there was no good reason why it wasn't sent. Oddly enough, once it finally came it was in one piece, but thankfully it worked. Then I finally was able to install the scanner. I was very pleased with the results. I only used one of the 4-5 pieces of software that came with it in the brief time it worked, but I found it easy to use and was pleased with the results. Suddenly today, it does not work. It worked yesterday, but not today. The hardware display says "Lamp error." The software says, "Error: The lamp was over." Over what? Overheated? Even though it hadn't been used in more than 24 hours? Over what? Who writes an error message like that? The lamp was over?!?!?!?! It makes no sense. The useless documentation lists help for only 2 error messages, neither of which is either "Lamp error" or "The lamp was over." So now I have to call Canon tech support, which (1) is currently closed, and (2) the useless documentation does not even provide. It's also hard to find the number on Canon's website. Plus, I have the happy experience of them failing to deliver the replacement power cord quite close in my memory, since it just happened last week. This thing is a doorstop, and Canon support is abominable. UPDATE: Canon did the best they could under the circumstances. The tech rep walked through some possible fixes, which took about 20 minutes, then decided to send me a replacement. It arrived overnight, and has worked for a week so far without incident. It is refurbished, so I guess my original unit will be fixed and either sold as refurbished or sent as a replacement to someone else. As long as the refurbished unit works, i don't mind. The techie also fixed a software glitch I introduced while working on the hardware problem, and confirmed that the power cord mismatch was a known issue that affected an entire batch of the scanner. Based on this response, I would raise rating from one to three stars if system would let me.
Excellant Home Document Scanner December 13, 2007 O. W. Higley (Nashville) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Cannon DR1210C scanner is easy to install and to use productively for small volume scanning such as one generally has in the home. Specific jobs can be created to instantly access the settings preferred for that job and have the folder where one wants the files stored pre-selected. It scans as an email attachment and opens Outlook Express just fine. Other email handlers I have not tried. It copies through the printer connected to the computer at least, I do not know if it will send a job to a network printer but I guess it probably would send it to whatever default printer was identified and available at the time. I do have to be logged into Windows to make a copy through the laser connected to my computer. Nice Scanner!!
A Bit Disappointed November 22, 2007 Bill Berry (Houston, TX) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my wife based on reviews that I have seen stating the ease of use and quality output. I agree with the ease of use but the quality was not there in doing color scans. Her older scanner was an HP ScanJet 7400C and it produced better color head to head against the Canon. Scanning directly to a Canon I9100 Printer the HP reproduced the colors more accurately than the Canon DR1210C. I was disappointed and could not justify the cost of the Canon. I returned the Canon.
