Knightsbridge might sound Old World, but the pattern is quite contemporary. Take this crystal pitcher, for example. The sides showcase vertical miter strokes that end in flame-like tips, while horizontal slashes through the verticals create a dazzling amount of geometric texture. Though the handle takes a fairly traditional curve, the body of the pitcher forms a modern, straight taper topped by a slanted rim. This is a pitcher more apt to serve martinis than lemonade. Godinger, the choice of many newlyweds, is renowned for both silver and crystal giftware and tableware. Other items from the Knightsbridge collection include a Champagne bucket, martini shaker, and wine decanter, all superb gifts for the bar-tending aficionado. Like all fine crystal, the pitcher should be washed by hand; a dishwasher can dull the crystal's beautiful clarity. --Ann Bieri
