2 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with 64-bit Vista OS   January 3, 2009

While Net Nanny seems very easy to set up and configure, we had a lot of problems with it. For example, it kept asking for an admin password when you opened a web browser, even though I had configured it to allow web surfing for everyone -- and then it wouldn't even accept my admin password. Ultimately I found out (from their web site) that Net Nanny did not support Windows Vista 64-bit OS. I wish I had known that before I purchased the software, but hopefully this will serve as a warning to everyone else.

2 out of 5 stars Good To Have While It Lasts   November 2, 2008

I purchased Net Nanny about a year ago. It did not have as many options and features as I had expected but it did offer some degree of protection for my kids while online. The ability to limit the time my kids spent online was my favorite feature. The reason I'm giving it a low rating is because after a year, it just stopped working and gave me a message about my license having expired. This came as a complete surprise to me. When I paid for Net Nanny software, I expected to have Net Nanny protecting my computer until I decided to upgrade it or to use someone else. Please be aware before you buy this product that after a year, you will have to pay again for Net Nanny or some other security software.

5 out of 5 stars Safety Software for My Family!   August 27, 2008

I have owned several versions of Net Nanny - and the latest, version 5.6 is awesome. It allows me to set-up a profile for each family member based on their age. Net Nanny just won the 2008 PC Mag Editor's Choice Award for Parental Controls- and it has earned it and more in my house. My kids have their Internet access shut off every school night at 7PM sharp thanks to Net Nanny. Anyone who isn't using a filter or parental controls and has kids surfing the Internet is asking for trouble

2 out of 5 stars Limited functionality   August 26, 2008

I have been using NetNanny on 2 computers for over 6 months. I like the filtering and time restrictions, but thats where the pros end. The internet time usage feature does not work and customer support have not been able to offer any help. When I enable this feature the internet is totally blocked upon logging in. Also this program is an all or nothing program, meaning it completely blocks all internet use at the times you plug in, which maybe useful for a family with young children less than 8. Myself I prefer a program that will allow access to the inetrnet for specific programs that I allow for homework etc and then restricted all others. This is not possible with NetNanny at this time. This coupled with the non functioning options within the program and annual subscription rates prompted me to rate it at 2 stars. There are better options available

3 out of 5 stars Not bad   May 1, 2008

This is good tool to help keep my kids from wandering too far off the safe internet path. I expected to get more out of the reporting functions, especially with IM. A bit clumsy to get started with. Make sure you are logged in before launching any browser package, or you may end up locking yourself out.
